One does not simply paint The Starry Night into Mordor
My friend has a mounted photo print of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night,” so after getting the idea from an image on Reddit, we decided to turn this print into a one-of-a-kind painting of a “Starry Night in Mordor.”
I used a box of acrylics and created a study, mixing paints to match not only Van Gogh’s colors, but the colors in the reproduction.
After turning the tree into a tower, and creating the eye, I added pale dots to mimic the effect of the canvas showing through dry brushstrokes.
Finally, I painted on the glaze to create a unified texture.
